Khadijat, also known as Khadi A. Oluwatoyin, is the founder of the non-profit Sober Black Girls Club, an attorney/community mediator and a storyteller. Born and raised in Staten Island, Oluwatoyin is the daughter of Nigerian parents who immigrated separately to the United States.
From writing poems in her childhood bedroom to litigating in the courtroom, Oluwatoyin's passion for storytelling has always been an integral part of her life. Through her recovery from substance abuse, Oluwatoyin has rediscovered her childhood dream of acting and filmmaking. With a sense of humor, she writes and produces films that reconcile what we see on screen with lived experience, antecedent wisdom, and ethereal potential.
“988” is Oluwatoyin’s first published film. The short film spotlights the crisis lifeline and explores how three residents of a four-story apartment complex interact with a neighbor recently diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
