Silent Cries

"Silent Cries" is a compelling Ukrainian War PTSD short film created under the intense pressure and creativity of the 48 Hour Film Project. In just two days, our team came together to write, shoot, and complete this deeply emotional story. The film follows Olena, a mother navigating the harrowing aftermath of losing her young son in a missile attack during the war in Ukraine. As she battles PTSD and overwhelming grief, Olena finds herself on a journey toward healing, guided by the compassionate support of Father Michael Rossi and a community that understands her pain.

Our team is a dedicated group of filmmakers who are passionate about telling stories that resonate with real-world issues and emotional depth. Despite the time constraints, we worked tirelessly to ensure that "Silent Cries" would be a powerful and moving experience for viewers. Each member of our team brought their unique talents and perspectives to this project, and together, we have crafted a film that we believe carries an important message of resilience, hope, and the human spirit's ability to endure even the darkest of times. We are excited to share "Silent Cries" with audiences worldwide and hope it will inspire conversations and empathy for those affected by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Director Statement

"Silent Cries" is a deeply personal and emotional exploration of the silent battles fought by those who have been scarred by the horrors of war. As a filmmaker, I was drawn to this story because it encapsulates the profound and often unseen struggles of individuals who are left to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives. This film is not just about grief and loss; it is about the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring power of love, even in the face of unimaginable pain. Through Olena’s journey, I wanted to capture the raw and unfiltered emotions of a mother’s fight to reclaim her life while honoring the memory of her son.

In light of the ongoing war in Ukraine, "Silent Cries" serves as a poignant reminder of the real and lasting impact of conflict on everyday people. This film is a tribute to all those who are battling their own silent cries, struggling to move forward in the aftermath of loss. It is my hope that this film will resonate with audiences around the world, encouraging empathy, understanding, and a deeper awareness of the psychological scars left by war.

As an American Soldier and Iraq War Veteran I carry my own personal battle with PTSD. I may hide it well at times, but the struggle to deal with things and to be a productive member of my team let alone my world is difficult to say the least.
