Now in our fifth year, TRYON19, presented by PCFI, proudly announces the dates of the upcoming festival to be held from October 11th to October 13th, 2019 in Tryon, N.C. Year Five is a milestone year for our film festival placing us firmly on international film competition circuit.
The Tryon International Film Festival is now perpetually listed on IMdb. If your film is nominated and wins a performance category, IMdb will pick up your success and aggregate your news to their platform and beyond.
As a filmmaker, actor, director, producer, etc, you should submit your work to IMdb for maximum industry exposure.
The Tryon International Film Festival is a spectacle to be witnessed only by being here. It is one of the few film festivals in the world that employs an entire town. Seven screening venues operate seamlessly during the entire three-day event as retail shops, restaurants and bars come alive with activity as filmmaker and fans walk the streets and enjoy parties, street entertainment and art.
Tryon is also one of the few towns in the country that allows the public to walk the streets with a drink in their hand!
The centerpiece of the festival is the newly renovated Tryon Theatre, which as been in continuous operation since 1938. It was a favorite stopping point for F. Scott Fitzgerald, David Niven, Lefty Flynn and others.
Our equestrian category remains as a constant in the festival, because of Tryon’s rich equestrian history.
In 2016, TRYON expanded its categories of submissions from full-length feature films, shorts and documentaries to the highly impactful “Human Rights & Dignity (HRD)” performance category. The impact of this additional grouping resulted in an influx of films from 17 countries.
TRYON19 will continue to build on HRD’s ever important form of messaging which touches all areas of the globe. Many of the most powerful films in this category vividly reach the viewer’s soul regardless of language translation.
The festival also employs a strategy of direct sourcing of film projects from around the world. This level of film recruitment has resulted in fabulous works from industry notables including Robert Redford, Cecilia Peck, Laura Dern, Mariette Hartley and many others.
Whether the film genre is drama, comedy or environmental, TRYON19 will continue to encourage and promote woman and other minority filmmakers throughout the world, before, during and after each festival run. Many filmmakers from past festivals will be called back as judges, educators and industry supporters.
TRYON19 will continue to invite local filmmakers to highlight their grassroots efforts, and staff operations will continue to attract filmmakers, actors, and artists from the world, both within the indie-film sector, television, online, interactive, virtual and post-cinematic release.
Our multiple screening venues include the historic Tryon Theatre, Tryon Fine Arts Center, Upstairs Art Space, Carri Bass Studio, and the Tryon Depot.
Note: to filmmakers requesting waivers: While we consider waivers requests from filmmakers, we do scrutinize the reason for the request. We remain conservative with waiver requests because of the following: (1) Films of various length and number, require a significant amount of time to consider with our screening committee and offsetting it with a submission fees helps. (2) We see a significant relationship between filmmakers who ask for waivers, and their ability to attend our festival.
Trophies and Awards: each year our awards team utilize local artists within our community craft wonderful and thoughtful awards. If your film happens to be winner of a performance category and you are in attendance, you will be given your award during award ceremony. However due to the cost of sending trophies and awards around the globe, those winners who are not in attendance must pay for their own shipping and delivery.
