Director Biography - YOGESH RAJENDRA MEHRA

HI I am Yogesh Rajendra Mehra, 32 years old. I have been working in this industry since last 9 years. I am a professional writer in the Hindi TV Industry, and this is my debut as a professional director. I have done my PGDM in marketing. I am passionate about film making. I have always wanted to make films since my teenage days, while in college I started making amateur short films and music videos with my handycam. I still remember I couldn’t get an edit software and nor was my Home PC compatible for such softwares. So I use to shoot every line in the scene in chronological order, after every dialogue use to take my handycam and tripod on the other axis to shoot. Then I finally got a desktop, and started editing my videos on pinnacle, and I was intrigued about the process of direction and editing.
My professional journey started as an Intern in a Music TV channel, from there I became an AD for 6 months, then I moved into the creative team and then became a professional writer for television. But I personally believe films are the best way of telling stories and are more creatively liberating.
Professionally this is my first film as a director, before this I have never directed anything, just my passion for films have given me the strength and courage to take this giant leap from becoming a television writer to a short feature film director. Hopefully will help me in becoming a better director for feature films.

Director Statement

Hi am Yogesh Mehra and this is my debut in direction. The short feature is written by me and is produced by family and friends.
These film festivals are great opportunities for Writers and Directors like myself, who still are trying to make their mark in the film industry. Film festivals are creative satisfying process for us where we can make stories that we find closer to our hearts and there is no creative interferences.
Tragic father’s day is a suspense thriller movie of 2 orphan kids, LUV & KUSH who decide to embark on an adventurous journey to find their father before father’s day, which horrifically goes wrong.
As a director I wanted this movie to be pacy and thrilling at the same time.I wanted the shot taking to be stylish, my vision was that the look and feel of the movie should be different. I have tried to give the best in whatever limited experience, time and budget I had.
Directing a thriller is not easy for a debutant. But the main challenge for me was the time and budget, and lack of experience on being the captain of the ship on the set, as this movie was shot in just 6 days. This is the first time I came to know about lenses, camera formats, lighting,DI etc.Whereas on the shot division part also it was challenging for me, as my budget didn’t give me the leisure of hiring a big direction team.
As a director I wanted to challenge myself by not working with known faces, I wanted to team up and explore new and raw talent, so that if the film does well other new film makers are also motivated to go ahead and take such risks, specially for film makers who can’t reach celebs.
