TRADITIONAL ARTIFACTS IN A CATHOLIC CHURCH
Synopsis
The Catholic Church of Tokombéré in northern Cameroon is special. They use traditional animistic artefacts in the celebrations of church masses.
This film follows in the footsteps of Baba Simon, a Cameroonian Catholic missionary of origin, who came to the Far North of Cameroon in the 1950s, eager to spread the gospel. He met various people, who recently migrated from the rugged
mountains and settled in the plains. They showed them their religious practices and their sacred artefacts, to which they were very attached.
This film is told by Yaouba Alphonse who was trained by Baba Simon as a catechist. Far from being a simple catechist, he becomes the extension of Baba Simon's will to establish the Catholic Church in her community at Bigeskawé, based on tradition.
However, Yaouba, shows us how he and his people have adapted on the plains with a church that adopted traditional artifacts and worship practices from their tradition in Catholicism in Tokombere.
