TORNANDO A EST ( Adventures Italian Style reloaded)

1991. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, international tensions in the world seem to have
eased, but many espionage operations continue to take place in the shadows: SISMI
(Italian military security intelligence service) is on the trail of Paolo Dinucci, a former
Italian carabiniere; Natalino Francalanci, a Tuscan leather trader; and Luigi Rampone,
an electronic engineer from OTO Melara (a company linked to Italian Defense).
The three are smuggling sensitive information to be resold to Bulgarian intelligence
services and the KGB.
Pago and Rice, on the other hand, have returned to their lives in Cesena, while Bibi
for six months now, continues to commute between Italy and Sofia having become
engaged to Yuliya, a Bulgarian girl.
Prompted by his new girlfriend, Bibi brings Yuliya to Italy so that she can finally meet
her family and her two closest friends. Yuliya, however, finds herself under blackmail
by officials in her country and, during her stay, secretly meets with Dinucci.
Unaware that the man had already been under surveillance by SISMI for some time
now Italian agents also follow the woman’s trail.
A few days later, in the spirit of wanting to relive old adventures, Pago and Rice
decide to leave again with Bibi and Yuliya for Bulgaria thus setting off a spiral of
misunderstandings that will make the three friends appear to be international spies.
The three, caught up once again in a series of unfortunate coincidences, now head
for Sofia. They will experience a journey full of encounters, emotions and twists and
turns. A film about discovering old, distant worlds that continue to exude a history not
to be forgotten.

Director Statement

1991. The end of the Soviet regime is in the air. Three boys from a small Italian province decide to take a journey to discover those places that the world ignores. The three friends, in an attempt to help a woman and her family, find themselves embarking on a journey to Bulgaria.
During their journey, they will meet numerous characters who will help them better understand what the Bulgarian people are really like in their daily life. What are people's dreams and hopes.
The perception of reality is totally different compared to the places in Italy where they come from, yet the three friends have only crossed an imaginary line. Through the universal metaphor of the journey we see how the point of view of the characters and consequently of the spectator can change very quickly. The superficiality to which we are accustomed every day has no place where man is condemned only to survival. With a small car and a great desire to live, three friends will help people, just because they feel in their hearts that it is the right thing to do.
Italy, like the rest of the world, pretends not to know what the past and present of many European countries are. With the medium of cinema it is possible, through the eyes of three young Italians, to retrace the paths of history in a universal story, a metaphor on how little is enough for the point of view to change. A vision of how what we take for granted every day, for a large part of the world's population, is just a large buffet that we can admire from the last row on tiptoe.
