Director Statement

I grew up in Beijing from a young age, and now when I look back on my childhood, there aren't many concrete images that come to mind, but the Olympics left a deep impression on me. I remember singing "Beijing Welcomes You" with my sister, the volunteers' smiles that were the most beautiful business cards of Beijing, the Olympic wristbands I won from answering questions, and the Fuwa Huanhuan that I begged my parents to buy for me. The Beijing Olympics, or the various events that took place in 2008, have strung together my beautiful and innocent imagination of childhood. Ultimately, I decided to use AI technology to make a short film about childhood and memories.

By chance, I came across my friend's childhood diary. The last line on the first page read: "The Olympic torch has reached San Francisco, USA, and today I even sculpted a face of Beibei out of clay." As I flipped through the pages, it was clear that the handwriting wasn't his own. I turned to entries about the Wenchuan earthquake, the Olympic opening ceremony, and birthdays. The naive and sincere words instantly transported me back to 2008, to the earthquake, the Olympics, and childhood... It was as if, in that moment, two people from different times and spaces were suddenly connected, and I felt as if I was peering into someone else's life.
