THE TRAP

The Trap explores the emotional journey of a woman who becomes a victim of self-obsession and lives within her own world, unknowingly pushing away the people she cares about most. The story follows her as she becomes increasingly self-centric and gets dragged to the path of narcissism. As she dives deeper into this pursuit of self-validation, she unknowingly starts to detach herself from her family—her husband and their young child—who begin to feel ignored and left behind.
The film serves as a cautionary tale about the detrimental effect of excessive self-obsession which often encourage putting oneself above everything else and eventually becomes aloof from the rest of the world. The film highlights how unchecked narcissism can isolate a person form the real world thereby unravel the very connections that bring meaning to life.

Director Statement

In this short film THE TRAP, I wanted to explore the destructive power of narcissism through the story of a woman who becomes so consumed by her own self-obsession that she gradually distances herself from the love and care of her devoted husband and young son. The film delves into the emotional isolation that comes with narcissistic behaviour, showing how it alienates not only others but also the individual who falls victim to it.

At its core, the film is about the painful realization that personal fixation can lead to the erosion of the very relationships that give life meaning. Through the woman’s journey, I wanted to highlight how the pursuit of validation and self-worth can ultimately lead to loneliness, as she pushes away those who care for her most.

The narrative is intended to spark reflection on the balance between self-love and the importance of nurturing the connections that ground us. It’s a reminder of how easy it is to lose sight of what truly matters in the face of self-centeredness, and how the absence of genuine connection can leave us emotionally adrift.

I hope this film resonates with audiences by reflecting universal themes of love, loss, and the struggle to reconnect when we’ve lost our way.
