THE SHACKLE

The Shackle tells a story of a woman, Pinta, who lives in Samosir Island, who is trapped in a family because of her economy and social status.
The residents of the island, lock her up because of her depression and mental issue. Not only that the shackle is a physical punishment, but also as a moral burden to her only daughter, Uli. Pinta’s family considers that her mental issue is a disgrace and shame to family dignity which leads to disgraceful acts towards Pinta. However, through her daughter, Uli, she perseveres through the difficulties and hard times until she is freed by her parents and Uli.

Director Biography - Lina Situngkir

Abdul Rasyid, or known as Acid, was born in North Sumatra on December 1, 1989. He is a director from the city of Medan. He has been involved in the audio-visual world since 2011. Apart from making short films, he is also active in creating content on social media, helping with the projects of several well-known content creators in the city of Medan.

Director Statement

The shackle is inspired by true story of Samosir Island. During the filming process, my team and I experienced a great relationship with all the artists and people from the island which later made me feel appreciative towards women who fight for their status and freedom.
