THEY,BEFORE DAWN
The documentary They, Before Dawn focuses on the narration of the personal unique world of six hostess laborers, recording their solutions to the emotional stress at work and their growths. The film is based on a creation-based strategy and emerged before the creation of scenario and montage. The important creation materials are the texts of narration. From the perspective of female consciousness, it presents the hostess laborers’ experiences and shows the psychology and situations, including body, desire, role in workplace, and private space, of marginal female laborers under male consumption. The film reveals girls’ workplace experiences, their privacy, and their feelings and reflection to be consumed. The text is a review of “gaze” and “exposure” in images of realism: the relation between the male gaze and the exposure of video cameras and phenomenon.
