THE MAID

Sizwe has a psychotic fiancé, Promise, who keeps firing maids and mistreating everyone. His mother decides to hire a new maid, Lethu, without Sizwe’s consent. Promise loses it when she hears that there is a new maid working for Sizwe, as she believes that all of their maids must be hired by her. Lethu, the new maid, is different from all the previous maids. She does not let Promise to shout and mistreats her, she fights back. Sometimes she fights for Sizwe as she can see that he is scared of his fiancé. After some time of this madness, Promise decides to leave Sizwe for another man. He is left broken and Lethu is there to pick up the pieces. Lethu tries to keep him entertained, wanted and important. The more she tries, the more he becomes attracted to her. They decide to date as they now love each other. Problems arise when Promise decides to come back to Sizwe’s life. Sizwe is not sure on who to pick between the two because he believes that Promise deserves a second chance since they were engaged. Lethu decides to pack his things and leave. Sizwe runs after her. We see Sizwe reminiscing about Lethu and trying to get hold of her, even in Promise’s presence. His mother comes to shout at Sizwe for breaking Lethu’s heart, and they end up having a heart-to-heart talk which gave Sizwe courage to go and fetch Lethu, leaving Promise.

Director Statement

I like to believe that I am a contemporary voice of the South African marginalized group. Growing up in a disadvantage background in one of our countries landmark township which is Mayville, taught me to view life in a different perspective, and as someone who has always been fascinated by writing and directing, film has always been my number one form of expression. I am a passionate writer and director who has never stop to strive for cutting edge stories and deliver quality work to people. Filmmaking has the power to change lives. As a filmmaker you become a teacher using the content of your film to liberate many oppressed minds.
