THE HAMMER AND THE DANCE

Visual artist, Juan Carlos Arévalo, and choreographer, Camille Hanson, combine dance and image to harness the sensitivity of art to spark conversation about the world we live in and know most intimately during the COVID 19 pandemic.
"The Hammer and The Dance" was created during quarantine in the space of their home in Madrid, Spain.

Director Biography - JUAN CARLOS ARÉVALO, CAMILLE HANSON

Choreographer, Camille Hanson, and visual artist, Juan Carlos Arévalo, fuse dance, image, and video creation into new and experimental works for festivals throughout Europe, Mexico, U.S.A. and Spain where they live and work.

Since 2009, their works have been presented at UN Summit COP25 2019, Starlite Festival of Marbella, The 3º Annual Conference for Peace in Jerusalem, Lincoln Center of N.Y.C., The University of Stanford California, ITEM International Platform for the Performing Arts, TEA Museum of Tenerife, “Spain NOW!” Festival of London, among many others.

Hanson and Arévalo hold many awards for their stage productions and site-specific works that raise questions about empathy and survival in times of dramatic environmental change.

Our work combines dance, photography and environment in an attempt to sensitize people to the majesty and fragility of our surroundings as a species connected to the whole,— while illuminating today’s critical global issue: climate change.
