THE GARDEN

The Garden is a film about listening and the stillness within the act of listening. It is a poem soundscape, just as the garden it speaks of is a dream landscape, a matrix, the place where everything starts and ends, the earth. A place where creation, innocence and violation are played out. Through a descent within the garden is the hope of a new start, a healing. Deep in the darkness there is light. Listen to the earth.

Director Biography - David Kemp

Primarily, I am an actor, butoh dancer and writer (https://davidkempactor.com/resume/ ) who through a love and preference for working with the camera is now filming his own work.

As an actor I've had roles in feature films, including EXIT (which has been featured at film festivals such as London Sci Fi, Arizona Underground, and premiered at Montreal's Fantasia festival in 2011) and as a writer had plays performed in Australia, including MONSTER PORN (which won Best Drama Writing in the Short & Sweet Play Festival 2006)

As a new filmmaker I have a small body of work (https://vimeo.com/user39491859) which I have shown privately in galleries, bars and online and am now entering festivals to reach a wider cinema audience. A previous short film, CENTIPEDE, was given an Award of Merit from Canada Shorts Film Festival in 2018. For me filming is an experiment using the primacy of the body and its relation to the camera to express the physical experience of acting, dancing and language in order to affect the viewer.
