Director Statement
THE ART
I took a page from the 1940s “hard boiled” detective fiction genre, e.g. The Maltese Falcon & Chinatown. Usually, a cynical detective in a big city is visited upon by a beautiful enigmatic & usually blonde woman with a problem. Using the tools that I had, I took a nonconformist, avant-garde approach to this model & turned it on its head. I paired public domain film clips with my own footage with an eclectic mix of special effects, black & white, color & sepia footage. I also challenged the of beautiful blonde European standard of beauty via a beautiful Black woman with a telepathic message.
