Founded in 2024, Sydney Film Week was initiated by a group of local filmmakers and film enthusiasts who recognized the need for an independent film week in Sydney to showcase outstanding local and international films. Thus, Sydney Film Week was born, with a mission to offer filmmakers from all backgrounds an open platform to have their work seen and appreciated.
At the heart of Sydney Film Week is a culture of diversity, inclusivity, and authenticity. The festival welcomes all styles and genres—from feature films and documentaries to animated shorts and experimental pieces. We’re committed to highlighting real, unique stories, with a special focus on independent films being screened for the first time. During the festival, we host small meet-and-greets with directors, film salons, and other intimate events that allow audiences and filmmakers to engage in meaningful conversations about film.
Whether you’re an experienced director or a filmmaker just starting out, we welcome you to bring your work to Sydney Film Week. More than just a screening platform, Sydney Film Week is a community where filmmakers and audiences come together to explore the possibilities of film and share their stories and perspectives. We look forward to seeing you in Sydney and celebrating the magic of cinema together!
