In her work as a documentary photographer and filmmaker, Sybilla Patrizia has covered social, cultural and political topics such as the struggles of the Tibetan Diaspora in Northern India, the 2014 Umbrella Revolution in Hong Kong, fetishization of and obsession with youthfulness and cuteness in contemporary Japanese mainstream culture, Japan's cherry blossom craze and the LGBTQ+ community in Tokyo.
In 2011, Sybilla was awarded a gold medal at the “Austrian Youth Championship of Photography” and was included in the 2016 “Smashbox Emerging Photographers Showcase” in London. Her work has been published and exhibited in Germany, Austria, the USA, Japan and the UK.
Sybilla Patrizia is currently a MEXT Japanese Government Scholar at Tokyo University of the Arts.
