Chicago-born Greg Pritikin is a Los Angeles-based writer/director working in film and television for 20 years. Greg inherited his love of film from his father who had an extensive collection of 16mm prints. Pritikin watched them religiously before starting to make his own Super 8mm films at the age of eight. With a background in music and theater, Greg studied at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music and Columbia College in Chicago.
After college, Greg worked as a musician in New York City until he entered the world of independent film with his feature debut, Totally Confused. The critically acclaimed, super low-budget indie premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and helped secure financing for his next movie.
His second film, Dummy, starred Adrien Brody, Vera Farmiga, Milla Jovovich, Ron Leibman, Jessica Walter, Illeana Douglas, and Jared Harris and was released by Lionsgate. On the heels of Dummy, he wrote and directed Surviving Eden, a satire about reality TV starring Peter Dinklage, Cheri Oteri, and Jane Lynch.
An exercise in gonzo-guerrilla filmmaking, Greg wrote the script in three days and miraculously won Best Screenplay at the Milan International Film Festival. Greg wrote and directed his fourth film, The Last Laugh, for Netflix. The comedy starring Chevy Chase, Richard Dreyfuss, Andie MacDowell, Kate Micucci, and Lewis Black was the third most watch movie on the streamer last year.
Currently, Pritikin completed his fifth feature, The Mistress, this year. A thriller shot in his own home stars John Magaro and is expected to be released early next year. In addition to his directing work, Greg has written dozens of screenplays including the adaptation of his own novel, The Butcher Cover, for Amazon Studios. Pritikin’s collaboration with the Farrelly Brother’s earned him a Razzie Award for the ignominious Movie 43. As a writer, Greg has created two television shows currently in development at eOne and Ben Stiller’s company Red Hour Films.
As a transplant to Los Angeles, it took me over a decade to feel like LA was my home. Part of the problem is the amorphous nature of the city. Drive from Beverly Hills to Boyle Heights and you will find as many disparate stories as you count strip malls. The only common theme between rich and poor, famous and anonymous are their connections to people. And fittingly in the City of Angels, its residents sometimes take on the duties of angelhood. I set out to tell a story about a different side of the city; where desperate, lonely, down on their luck denizens discover their only shot at a better life is through the inadvertent saving grace of another person.
