Suraj Mainali is the 32 year old executive producer and co-founder of Gaurishankar Entertainment, an independent art house film company based in Nepal. Born in the small south western town of Nepalgung, he was from an early age extremely passionate about movies, frequenting the cinema halls on a weekly basis and grabbing up as many vhs tapes he could get his hands on . In 2007 he traveled to Kathmandu to study at Apex Business College, where he stayed in a boys hostel in the heart of the city. Here he quickly became known for his vast collection of DVDs, and was the de facto video rental service for his and multiple other hostels in the area. In 2013 he moved to India in hopes of breaking into the film industry, but after the earthquake of 2015 he decided to return back to Nepal to start his own film company. He teamed up with longtime friends and collaborators Ian Scott Clement and Gourav Basnet to form Gaurishankar Entertainment, and began writing their first project 'BASENJI'. Suraj is now well known in the industry for his fiery passion for independent art cinema and is determined to put Nepal and Nepali artists at the forefront of the global film community.
