Summer Tango

The 17-year-old Wang Xiaoti has shown extraordinary talent in cello since he was a child. However, he hasn't won any awards in the last five years. Now a crucial international trial is coming, but he just couldn’t play his selected tune Libertango well. For the duration of preparation, Wang Xiaoti met a mysterious and elegant girl, Xia Tian, who had seduced him step by step into the vortex of emotions and desire, and had taught him the final lesson on the road of art.

Zhang Han, born on July 4, 2000, is currently studying at the Communication University of China, majoring in literature of theater, film and television. The short film Falling I wrote and participated was nominated in the short film section of Shanghai Film Festival.

Director Statement

Sex, is the most primitive natural impulse of mankind, and the sweetest passion of human life. When the sublime and pure art meets the plumpy and powerful sexual desire, the most brilliant miracle will be produced. However, in China, sex is regarded as a scourge, a fearful monster. Sex education has been absent from a long time in the growth of young people. As a result, there are many teenagers like Wang Xiaoti, who have produced natural desire during their growing up, but their understanding of love and sex were repressed by parents and the whole society.
Sex is the basic point of love, and love turns into various fantasy and myths from sex.=] There is no doubt that a person can live without a healthy sexual awareness. But for art, sex and love are the eternal themes. People who don't understand that will never be able to open the gate of art. Wang Xiaoti's mother hoped that he could make some achievement in cello, but killing his newly budding sexual awareness in the same time, which eventually led to a tragedy. This may seem absurd, but not impossible in China, cause before entering the university, I grew up in such kind of family as well.
Considering cello and tango as the sexiest kind of music and dance respectively, I have put them in this film. As my first work, I hope while telling the story, some enjoyment could be given to the audience.
