Owen Bragg is an outstandingly talented artist and my son, who also has autism. He began drawing at an early age, he liked to use pencil as a beginning and then felt tip pen. After a few years he developed his art into acrylic on canvas. He was featured in an exhibition at the San Pablo Museum.
Along the way Owen has won quite a few prizes, notably having his artwork selected to be hung in the CARF-CCAC office in Washington DC. His artwork was also selected by the Point Richmond Jazz Festival for all its promotional materials, including Tshirts.
With the advent of computers, Owen learnt how to scan his drawings and digitally color them. Owen has always loved the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco skyline, and his earlier work represented that.
He loves all things cartoon and animation. Owen has invented his own characters and published several books featuring his own artwork and story lines. His books can be found on Amazon.com. When Owen had his first book published he hosted a book reading at Book Passage in Marin. Owen’s dream is to make an animated movie. To that end he is now taking lessons in animation at Visions Day Program.
Owen has met many wonderful teachers and carers along the way. His and my own personal hero is Gwen Captain, founder of Visions Day Program. Some of his former teachers have remained buddies with him, Laura Briggins and Tom Widger, love them. His newest teacher known to Owen as Mr Driver is a true gem.
