Suds & Cinema ’25: A Multi-Genre Short Film Festival

We’re back for another amazing night at Crooked Can in Hilliard, OH, on Thursday, November 20, 2025!

Join us for the 5th ever Suds & Cinema Multi-Genre Short Film Festival—a night of creativity, community, and craft beer. This year’s event promises an incredible lineup of short films from talented filmmakers across Ohio and beyond. From thrilling micro films to inspiring trailers and imaginative stories, there’s something for everyone.

We're looking for short films that entertain! We love comedy, animation, horror, arthouse and experimental, But we're open to just about ANY GENRE, so long as it represents creativity, and pairs well with a cold beer!

Submissions are now open on FilmFreeway, and we’re looking for the best short films across all genres!

We want to show your short films! Don’t miss your chance to celebrate independent cinema and craft beer with us. This multi-genre short film festival is the Perfect Pairing of Craft Beer and Short Films!

All of our selections and Honorable Mentions will receive public recognition via Suds & Cinema social media channels.

Our Award Winners will receive a prize packs, award certificate, and public recognition for their film! We're excited to offer recognition to FIVE films-- the best films submitted in the following categories:

Home Brew Award
Celebrates the best short film crafted within Ohio, spotlighting local filmmakers who represent the Buckeye State’s creativity.

Pint-Sized Story Award
Honors the best microfilm (under 2 minutes), recognizing filmmakers who deliver a potent narrative in a short, impactful burst.

Out-of-State Pour Award
Given to the best short film from beyond Ohio's borders, celebrating the diverse and refreshing stories from filmmakers far and wide.

Tap Teaser Award
Awarded to the best trailer, acknowledging the preview that generates the most excitement and thirst for more.

Top of the Barrel Award
Awarded to the best overall production across all categories, recognizing excellence in every aspect of filmmaking. This is for the film that rises to the top as the festival’s standout.

Trailers are an art of their own! Do you have a teaser or preview of upcoming project (or concept)? We want to showcase it! We're accepting all trailers under 3 mins in length!

Microfilms are a very short films, under 2 mins in length, that tells a complete story or conveys a powerful concept within its brief runtime.

Short Films Made in Ohio are accepted from ALL GENRES! We're looking for creative writing, passionate acting, cool vfx, and entertaining stories! Ohio Shorts should be 14 Mins or less in length, including credits.

Out of State Shorts are also accepted from ALL GENRES! It's exciting to see locally made short films beside those made in other states and countries. We just want to celebrate independent cinema!

Suds & Cinema Short Film Fest proudly shines a spotlight on Ohio filmmakers, but we’re just as excited to feature incredible independent short films from anywhere in the world. Wherever you’re from, we’re looking forward to discovering and showcasing your creative work!

Must receive final submissions by Oct 24, 2025. Official film selections will be notified on 10/27/25.

Download request may be sent to all submitters, whether selected for screening or not.

Who Can Submit a Film?
Any Filmmaker! The submitter must be over 18 yrs old to submit your film, and the venue requires patrons to be 21+ (or with parent)

The person submitting the film must have had a major creative role in the production of the film/video.

What Kinds of Film Are we Looking For?
Comedy! Action! Horror! Animation! Experimental! ETC! We're looking for short films of all genres that are fun to watch in a brewery setting.

Is there a limit to the amount on entry's?
Although there's no limit to number of submissions per person, we're only showcasing up to 2 films per creator.

The Suds & Cinema Screening Event will be held on Nov 20, 2024 from 7-9:30P in Hilliard, OH at the Crooked Can.

[Do not have to be present to participate in festival]

Your entry fee will help cover the cost of operations, including: venue and promotional materials, etc.

Who Decides Which Films Will Be Screened?
Members of the Suds & Cinema jury will view each film submission to determine which films are awarded laurels. The top selections will be showcased at the screening event, eligible for award, and other perks.

Is my film disqualified if it's been posted on YOUTUBE or some other form of social media?
Please submit your movie! However if you do submit a movie that is on some form of social media, we do ask that you remove it from the public domain and take your film "private" or "unlisted" as soon as your film is submitted. The reason for this is to build anticipation and excitement for your film's premiere at our festival.

By submitting to Suds & Cinema, you acknowledge and agree:

1 . I have read, understated and fully comply with all submission eligibility information, Submission Guidelines, Terms and Conditions of Entry and Entry Eligibility requirements.

2 . To the best of my knowledge, all of the statements in this document are true;

3 . This film or video is not subject to any litigation nor is threatened by any litigation;

4 . I am duly authorized to submit this film to the festival;

5 . I hold Suds & Cinema and festival organizers harmless from any damage to the print(s) or tape(s) en route or otherwise during the course of the festival’s possession of the film;

6 . I hold Suds & Cinema, its owners, management, juries, subsidiaries, agents, sponsors, affiliates, and etc. harmless from any and all claims of liability resulting from my entry.

7 . I certify that I have full rights to the use of the music in the entered work.

8 . I give permission for Suds & Cinema to use stills, titles, copy, and/or information from the film for promotional purposes

9 . I give permission for CinemaSlice to screen the film at the Festival as any festival promotions. And agree to allow speeding up credit sequences for time.

10. Submitter offers Suds & Cinema Film Festival permission from the legal rights holder for a public performance at screening event on Nov 21, 2024.

OTHER NOTES:

There is NO 'Film Made By' date. Please feel free to submit your early work as well as your current.

PLEASE NOTE: We DO NOT pay screening fees. If any screening fee is requested by filmmaker(s), the associated film will be disqualified.

Your original content remains yours, and will not be used or re-created by Suds & Cinema or affiliates in any form or fashion outside of promotional materials.



We can’t show every film submitted. Unfortunately, we need to be selective, as we only have 2.5 hours of screen time. Best of luck to everyone who submits a film!!

  • This was my first time attending. The atmosphere was so welcoming, and the networking opportunities were valuable. The films screened were well-curated and diverse. Although I did win in my category, I feel I can objectively say that those who won in the other categories were well-deserving of their awards. The judging appeared to be very fair, so it was an honor to be recognized in my category.

  • Suds & Cinema was such a fun event! There were outstanding local (Ohio) and out-of-state short films, and it had a great film party atmosphere. The Crooked Can is a great venue with plenty of food and drinks to choose from.
