Suburbia

After receiving a blood test result and learning the name of his soul mate, Jon, a nerdy high school boy goes to confess his love for his high school crush and friend, Vio, a tomboy teen girl, despite not being each other's chosen soulmates. They both begin an unlawful relationship. At the end of the school year near the Vio's supposed marriage with her soulmate, she suggests for them to run away together, but Jon is hesitant, very much aware of the government's regulation against choosing your own partner.

Director Statement

In this alternate version of the suburban, people’s choices are regulated more than its otherwise very similar reality. These regulations make for a less complicated affair, and people generally respect this notion. That is something that often occurs in reality, in ways slightly different from the film. However, sometimes the regulation cannot be applied to certain circumstances and fail at being all-inclusive to its people. For me, abiding by certain regulations means I was missing out on my greatest desires.

I had a fear that I would live the rest of my life in the suburbs as the world turns each day and I would be stuck in one position my whole life, missing out on thousands of new feelings and experiences that others have tasted. Therefore, I had to make a change as soon as possible, before my youth pass by and my life is settled. This meant that I had to surrender everything I have known and learned to be the standard in exchange for something new, exciting, and life changing. This is an experience that I want to communicate through the film; that sometimes taking a risk can be worth the while.
