Subhasis Chakraborty is a Kolkata based Indian documentary filmmaker, who has done his Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) in History of Art, from the Department of History of Art, Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan, a university initiated by Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), the first Nobel laureate outside European countries.
Subhasis has been documenting the life and works of Shakila Shaikh, a renowned collage artist of India since 2015. Films Division, the documentary film production centre of India, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, now merged with NFDC, National Film Development Corporation of India, is the producer of the documentary.
Subhasis has been working as researcher-script writer-documentary filmmaker, for the last ten years. He has made documentaries/ audio-visuals for national as well as international organisations, to name a few are, Films Division-NFDC, Mumbai; CIIL, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, Mysuru; Doordarshan (Kolkata)-Prasar Bharati, a public broadcaster of India, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India; ICAR-NINFET, Indian Council on Agricultural Research - National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Kolkata; international NGO namely Terre Des Hommes International Federation, Switzerland. Simultaneously, he is doing independent documentaries on folk, modern and contemporary art practices of India and Bangladesh.
