Director Statement

STRANGE PHENOMENA is a poetic meta-fictional documentary, woven from personal archive photographs, textual fragments and lyrical voiceover that maps the course of a relationship alongside the changing seasons.

As two ghostly figures recovering from illness drift slowly together, become suspended in time, then fall suddenly apart, they undergo subtle changes through exchanging their hopes, dreams and metaphors. Through the slow erotics of daily encounter, they experience a shared regeneration and renewed sense of self, purpose and creativity.

Obliquely set after the global COVID-19 pandemic and told through images taken in lockdown, this nostalgic photo-romance interrogates the ruptures between fantasy, truth and fiction through dreamlike montage suffused with longing, desire and redemption.
