Strait Up: The Lost Art of the Approach
Strait Up is an adventure documentary that tells the story of a world-first kayaking and climbing expedition. In early 2018 a team of 2 Alaskan ladies and 2 Australian blokes set out to become the first to kayak and climb across the Bass Strait, from mainland Australia to Tasmania. Known as the Everest of sea kayaking to Australians, the Bass Strait is a gnarly stretch of water that few attempt at crossing each year. Then, they added on the challenge of packing climbing gear and setting sights on establishing first ascents on some granite sea cliffs. These 4 young explorers are just your average goofy dirtbags with big dreams and killer senses of humor. The film follows their journey of bringing back the lost art of the approach, and reminds us that exploration isn't dead.

Jamie Trapp is an adventure filmmaker and outdoor guide chasing adventure on the open road (and water). Originally from the Midwest, Jamie received her Bachelor of Arts in 2017 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jamie has always been very passionate about advocating for the protection of our planet. She started sea kayak guiding in Alaska when she was 18, which fueled her love of adventure and living simply. Through adventure film, she hopes to inspire people to get outside, be wild, chase their dreams, and recognize our role in keeping the outdoors healthy.
Strait Up has been my passion project for the last 2 years. Rachel and I work in the same town in Alaska, where I have been inspired by others for years. It's unreal to have this finished project of the story of an adventure which I can hopefully share with others and spread the stoke.
