Director Biography - Gabriel Shigueo

De formação autodidata, Gabriel Shigueo é um cineasta independente especialmente interessado em cinema experimental e avant-garde. Ele abandonou o curso de Letras da Universidade de São Paulo para focar no cinema. É cofundador do coletivo Descartável. Também grava videoclipes para Med Zentorno e Sérgio Wong. Atualmente vive em São Paulo, SP, Brasil.

Self-educated Gabriel Shigueo is an independent filmmaker specially interested in experimental and avant-garde cinema. He left the course of Language and Literature of the University of São Paulo (USP) to focus on cinema. He’s co-founder of the collective Descartável. Also makes music videos for Med Zentorno and Sérgio Wong. Currently lives in São Paulo, SP, Brazil.

"But... the things that are around filmmaking and films and making films and getting money for films today, as we see in this festival [Rotterdam], are obnoxious – there's no other word. It's terrible. You don't make films like this. You don't make a photograph like that. You make a film with your guts, with your heart, and today you can make it alone, without pitching anything – don't pitch anything to anyone, please!"
