Still Lifes
With a montage of static images of commonplace locations and a fugue of indistinct voices, natural sounds, and music, Still Lifes reflects upon the empty spaces where people had at one time lived, laughed, and worked. The images and sounds increasingly play out like dimmer and dimmer past events, as though the sites themselves have the memories of the people who once gave these now vacant places life.

Jac Rubenstein has been a sound/dialogue editor for over 30 years, based mostly in New York, and, occasionally, Berlin. He has worked closely with a wide array of directors, including Martin Scorsese, Barry Levinson, Noah Baumbach, Malcom Lee, Anton Corbijn, Shaka King, Jonathan Demme, Doug Liman, Mary Harron….and many more.
After making a handful of short films in Chicago, gathering some attention, he took a break from that to concentrate on writing short stories. But now, after a long pause, he has returned to his first love: making short, personal and unexpected films.
