Stephen Rhys Johnson is the film maker behind Dragon Fruit Films, a Cardiff based production company. Stephen trained as an actor at the Oxford School of Drama, graduated MA (Hons) Creative Writing and Media from Swansea University and completed new writer’s workshops with the National Theatre, London at The Old Vic, and Ty Newydd, North Wales. Stephen has been a finalist in the Ronald Duncan Literary Prize, Oran Mor / Channel 4 Prize, Tobacco Factory Script Space 5, and won the Saturday Shorts 2012 new writing competition. His short plays have been performed at Venue Cymru, Llandudno and the Bristol Folk House. He has also written a series of short monologues for the Actors Workshop and collaborated with award winning playwright Roy Smiles on scripts for a radio sitcom pilot.
In addition to short films, Dragon Fruit create films for Award Ceremonies, Corporate Promotions, Training, Music Videos, and Actors Showreels. Dragon Fruit specialise in documentary style short films for the adult learning and charity sector. Our clients include Learning and Work Institute, Department for Business Innovation & Skills, Department for Education, Firefly Press, Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales, Agored Cymru, WCVA, Ambition London, Into Work Convention, Cardiff Voice Skills and The Sportsyard (RCT).
Dragon Fruit Films have also been the official filmmakers for The Festival of Dangerous Ideas, Adult Learners’ Week , Inspire!
