Eighteen-year-old Jess McGuirk, born and raised in Wonthaggi, Victoria, is a young filmmaker who wrote, edited, and directed her own self-made documentary film Steel Reborn. The film tells the real-life story of her grandpa Peter and his restoration of a World War Two army tank. This film has been shortlisted for Top Screens and will soon await a final decision to see if it will appear alongside the top 14 films from Victoria's media students for 2024, showing at ACMI in Melbourne’s Federation Square early next year.
Hi, my name’s Jess McGuirk. I’m a young filmmaker who recently directed my own documentary film Steel Reborn as part of my VCE Media class for Year 12. I have made other films in the past and look forward to creating more in the future. This is my first time entering my film into a festival, so I’m excited to see how it all works.
