Director Statement

STEEL LIBIDO is a woman’s journey of self-discovery that carries a message my wonderful, female co-creators and myself wish we had been told when we were tweens ready to venture out into the world as young women: that real love and true intimacy starts with one’s self.

In STEEL LIBIDO, single-mother Quinn is jarred into seeing her adolescent-self reflected in her 12-year-old daughter, Lola. She wants Lola to learn and understand body sovereignty and self-love rather than the fantasy and false beliefs surrounding sex. But first, like most of us, Quinn must understand who she is, and what's been missing all along.

After decades of self-sacrifice, disappointments, and heartbreaks, it became apparent that personal validation and genuine happiness come from loving oneself first. That is the story I wanted to tell.

I believe we, as a society, could all benefit from facing our fear of intimacy – with self and others. That we may become aware of the distinction between immediate pleasure – generally found from external stimulation – and the lasting gratification that comes from within. For those of us who were not taught those valuable lessons early on, it seems better late than never… and all the better if we can portray such a message through a fun, sensual and heartfelt short film.

STEEL LIBIDO is dedicated to women everywhere – and to them finding their greatest pleasure.
