The documentary STEAM OF A SMOKE STACK shows people who live at a place, which has been expanded and impressed by the local paper factory. The factory is the hero, who enables a save existence and promises satification - but it´s also the antagonist, who eliminates chances and makes human beings compliant. Indeed the residents have come to an arrangement with their situation and
give an insight of their very personal ways of beeing happy.

Elena Schwarz, born in 1988 in Vienna, finished her acting studies at the University of Music and performing Arts in Graz, Austria in 2011. In 2010, she received an Award for talented young Artists of the Federal Republic of Germany. During and after her studies, she worked as an actress at different theatres, for example at the Schauspielhaus Graz and the Wiener Lustspielhaus. Furthermore she participated in several short movies in front and behind the camera. After some stay abroads she turned towards her work as a filmmaker. 2014 she was Co-Founder of the collektive glashaus, with whom she realises theater- and filmprojects. Her first shortmovie POSITIV was shown at the International Frontale Film Festival. In the same year, she was selected for the talentcampus for young filmmakerds of the International Film Festival Innsbruck. Steam of a Smoke Stack is her first feature-length documentary project.
