Stealing Me Back From You

I'm leaving through the back door
'Cause I can't face the street
And the air out here's so sweet

Never knew freedom
To feel so good
Now I know that it should

Now I know why
There was no light in my sky
Didn't see your walls closing in
But I'm breaking out
And I'm gonna get through
'Cause I'm stealing me back from you

Secret eyes like the tide
Pulled me out, pulled me in
Good thing I knew how to swim
When your waves crashed down
I could already see
It was now or never for me

Now I know why
There was no light in my sky
Didn't see your walls closing in
I'm breaking out
And I'm gonna get through
'Cause I'm stealing me back from you

Yeah I'm stealing me back from you
Yeah Stealing me back

Artist Biography

I was classically trained, but have sung everything from backup singer in a rock band to bluegrass. I now write Indie folk music on piano and guitalele and love collaborating with other musicians.

Artist Statement

Inspired by Ella Fitzgerald, Cyndi Lauper and Sinead O'Conner at an early age, the only certainty I ever had in my life is that I needed to sing. Once, on a spring morning, I played Hallelujah on a public piano in the Rome train station, belting out harmonies with strangers while early morning rush hour commuters passed by. Music is a language that can transcend difference, reach across time, touch hearts, transport you to another world - and change everything in an instant. From singing under the moonlight on the Zambezi river in Southern Africa - to performing in the Duomo in Florence - to singing my kids to sleep - music and singing is my first language. Singing brings me closer to myself, to others and the world around me. I am a Canadian singer songwriter that loves building eclectic sounds, playfully mixing a diversity of genres, including Indie, folk, pop, jazz and bluegrass. And I can never resist a karaoke version of any Aretha Franklin tune.
