Starting All Over Again, New music in post-war Germany
Even music went back to square one in Germany, in 1945: New sounds were to make the Germans better people, according to the plan of the Allies. With their support, musicians continued the work of those sounds that had been forbidden by the Nazis. Atonal and twelve-tone music are now on the concert programs, with contemporary music from the countries of the occupying powers. However, with the beginning of the Cold War, the division of Europe into East and West, a change sets in: Music, too, becomes a weapon in the struggle of the systems.
A little illuminated chapter of German-German history is told in an entertaining way.
