In the past two years, I have been involved in mental health treatment in the hospital by means of art therapy. This film tells the story of a patient, who witnessed her recovery and bravely faced the disease.

Director Biography - ChenQiang ChenQiang

Chen Qiang
Born in chengdu, China in 1977
In 2002, I started experimental art creation (installation art, performance art, video art, experimental films ).
In 2005, I started to create the trilogy of experimental art work: Putrefying, Follow and Heart. Later I started to combine with several art forms to create. The trilogy of live art: Heart sound in 2010, September in 2011, Sparkling sound in 2012(experimental films, sound art, performance art), were accomplished in this period. This was followed by two experimental video game projects, five independent animation projects and more mash-up media art projects. At present, projects being completed and under way include Sister Xiaohong and Art Museum, Dream(game, animation, sculpture, theatre, piicture book), Action of deciduous teeth, which is created by individual and family, Unfold of public space and so on.
I have been invited by the Dusseldorf City Culture Bureau, Germany to participate in the exchange, by Auckland Polytechnic University and Ocalan Art Gallery, New Zealand to make lectures and have made solo exhibition in Auckland, exhibitions, academic exchanges and creation in France. In addition,I have also curated solo exhibition and group exhibition in the Macau Ngau Shed Art District Gallery.
I was employed by the DT platform, the first digital painting platform in China, as an art consultant, served as the academic consultant on art project in Sichuan University Art Museum, distinguished art workshop artist of video media in Hubei Academy of Fine Arts.
The trilogy of experimental images (Putrefying, Follow, Heart) were written as a doctoral thesis by Dr. Yiman in the University of California. Articles about the view of the experimental film, like Pick up the lights and look at the sword, have been published in Movie Author. Chen Qiang: My Spirit City, published in China Television (Animation) , has been reprinted by ‘HowNet’ and ‘Knowledge’. The experimental art works were collected by many institutions and individuals at home and abroad, such as the North Carolina University Library, the Columbia University Library, and the Dusseldorf City Culture Bureau, Germany, the Li Xianting Film Fund, Hong Kong Arts Centre Auckland Polytechnic University

Director Statement

In the past two years, I have been involved in mental health treatment in the hospital by means of art therapy. This film tells the story of a patient, who witnessed her recovery and bravely faced the disease.
The mental health hospital is the place I have visited most in the past three years. It is not to treat myself, but to help doctors treat depression patients with art. I formed a band with them and performed impromptuly.
