Stalking the Storks

The Greater Adjutant Stork species is listed in the (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species and is the world’s most endangered stork with a calamitous and lamentable global population figure of only 1000.
Deepor Beel, a Ramsar Site located in the South west of Guwahati city (Assam, India), is one of the world’s largest homes to the Greater Adjutant Stork which hosts over 200 species of birds and 70 migratory species throughout. Furthermore, it has the largest flock of aquatic birds documented up to 20,000 a day. However, the wetlands have come under severe scrutiny and threat due to environmental degradation and the presence of Boragaon, the dumping yard of Guwahati, within its immediate vicinity. The Green Tribunal resolved to protect the wetlands, but, very little has been done to ensure sustainable conservation of the species. The shrinking habitat has led to a downfall in its breeding and in 2017, 22 Greater Adjutant were found dead near the dumping yard suspected of consuming poisoned food.
The documentary is an outcry for the instantaneous and sustainable conservation of the endangered bird. The film not only makes an attempt to illustrate the perils of the species approaching extinction, but, it also depicts the ignorant and heedless ways, human beings are extirpating its environment and the ecology of the species found in the wetlands.
