Stage Challenge

Ali is a shy high schooler who withdraws from the world, afraid of everything in it. While hiding in the hall, Ali watches a meet up of some spirited classmates. She learns the girls are meeting to create their entry for Stage Challenge — a global dance competition about world issues. Inspired by the girls’ passion, Ali asks to join. Although the group is reluctant to embrace her at first, when Ali suggests they focus on “The Future”, they all agree it is the best idea. As they work on their performance, Ali confronts her fears alongside her new friends. Their attempts to create what the future might look like reveal their worries about adulthood, climate change, and who has all the power. Amidst the chaos on and offstage, Ali begins to see how the world’s problems play out around her, mirroring the very themes they’re dancing. Recognising these roots, and her place among them, Ali finds courage to speak up.
