Sriram Emani is a writer-director and a published novelist. His debut novel Contagious Love was published by India's leading publisher, Rupa.
Sriram Emani is an award-winning actor, writer, and filmmaker originally from Mumbai and now based in Boston. He studied engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology and later earned his Master’s at MIT—but his calling has always been storytelling. His work, rooted in the diasporic experience, explores themes of cultural memory, displacement, and the silent codes of survival. Videos he has directed have been performed at the United Nations Headquarters and Lincoln Center, and amassed over 400 million views online.
Sriram is the founder of IndianRaga, a digital arts platform that democratizes access to Indian classical arts, and has spoken on TEDx stages about the power of cultural storytelling. His current short film, Jam Boy, is a dystopian sci-fi drama that reimagines the "model minority" myth through the metaphor of food and resistance. Developed with support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the film is now in post-production and being pitched for top-tier festivals.
Whether in front of the camera or behind it, Sriram is committed to creating bold, emotionally resonant work that speaks to lives lived in translation—and stories that don’t just diversify the screen, but decolonize the frame.
