Springloaded: A Pinball Tale

David Mainwairing has one main passion in life which is competing in pinball tournaments. It has helped him with his disability to make friends and has led to him becoming a champion at the sport. However not everything is going well for David as recently he has had quite a few losses and he fears that his hobby might be dying. A major tournament in Fulda, Germany gives David the chance to regain his position as a pinball champion.

Richard Jeffrey Whittaker is a Director and Producer from Bristol, UK. He has worked for the BBC and Films@59 and has produced a wide variety of independent content specialising in giving talented people with disabilities a wide reaching voice. Having a disability himself his mission is to help change peoples perspectives on what it is really like to be disabled.

Director Statement

Competitive pinball is a hobby most people probably don't know exists, in fact pinball as a hobby has spent the last few decades in the shadows. However it not only has a global following but David Mainwairing is hoping to become a champion after several dissapointments in previous tournaments. Join him as he goes to Germany to fight for the championship in this new documentary.

Made over 3 months in 2 different countries I set out to show Pinball and David Mainwairing in a new light. I spent over 12 hours a day during the tournament in Fulda to get the real perspective of what it is like to take part in competitive pinball.
