Bryson Lima is a New York City-based screenwriter, director, and producer. His passion for filmmaking stemmed from a background in the performing arts, musicianship, and making stop-motion short films with LEGOs when he was a kid.
Some of Bryson's notable work includes an original sitcom titled "The Buzz" (Producer, Director) which won the "Best Scripted Series" award at the 38th College Television Academy Emmy® Awards. He also produced and co-directed a short documentary called "Ghost Light" which has been submitted to various film festivals around the country. “Time of Death”, an independent film that Bryson co-wrote and directed, has been accepted to film festivals internationally and received several accolades. In addition, Bryson actively writes, produces, and directs short narrative films, documentaries, music videos, promotional pieces, and commercials.
When I first visited Savannah, in 2015, to tour the Savannah College of Art & Design, I was instantly entranced by the beauty in Savannah’s historic architecture, natural elegance, and Southern hospitality. I was equally captivated by the dark, ominous stories that are circulated when the sun sets, and the ghost tours embark on their nightly prowl. In a city with recorded history (much of it rather sinister) dating back to the early 1700’s, it is fitting that a spiritual energy occupies this space. I knew this was where I needed to live for my college career, and a few years post- graduating, as I entered my career in the film industry. I have been developing “Spooky Society” over the past four years as a television series, and this short film was produced to serve as a proof of concept for that program. On the surface, Spooky Society is a story about a bunch of kids making a vlog for social media. But, at its core, the narrative is about their friendships, their struggles with each of their home-lives (arguing with parents, choosing colleges, the challenges of mental health), and finding an escape by doing something they are passionate about. Throughout the series, they establish the unbreakable bond of powerful friendships, despite the challenges they face both in and outside of their paranormal investigations.
Through "Spooky Society” my hope is to blend my childhood memories and curiosity of the unknown with my love for Savannah, ghosts, and storytelling. I hope the audience feels a sense of nostalgia and wonder as they join the ”Spooky Society” gang on their adventure.
