The movie "Searching for San Biao" tells a true story that takes place in the underground rock circle of Beijing. San Biao are often ridiculed by rock youths, with some "legendary" colors. At this time, people's emotions towards them are contradictory. On the one hand, compared to the fast-paced pressure of modern life, the freedom of the San Biao makes people yearn for it; On the other hand, everyone found their sense of superiority as normal people by mocking the San Biao. However, after the death of San Biao, mourning San Biao became a performance art with its own rock spirit. So rock youths who knew him or didn't know him all came to join in the fun. This kind of behavior turned into a farce after San Biao returned to public view, and for San Biao, everything was as usual. But for these people, those false and self numbing behaviors have become jokes, and they have lost themselves in their own rock world under the guise of searching for themselves.
The purpose of filming this short film is to satirize the compromise that people nowadays feel uneasy about the status quo, and to prioritize their own sense of superiority over the shortcomings of others. Just like those who look down on the San Biao in the short film, they actually envy their free and unrestrained spirit, because the San Biao themselves have very few desires and do not need to struggle to fill their dissatisfaction. Rock music is originally music that expresses oneself without serving anyone. Rock music has become their outlet for releasing stress, a temporary refuge from high-pressure society, and a utopia. San Biao is a person who can stay in utopia forever, but they can only stay briefly.
