As a Los Angeles native, Demie Santone grew up loving film. At the age of 15, she was admitted to the famous Orange County High School of the Arts Film and Television conservatory. She then went on to study film at Art Center College of Design, graduating with a BFA in Film, with honors. As a queer filmmaker, Demie's goal is to tell stories that are socially aware, while also being entertaining, relatable, and convey the human experience.
Spellbound is my thesis film. I was heavily inspired by the melodramas of directors Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Todd Haynes when writing the script and shaping the story. I wanted to tell a queer story that was communicated through subtle looks and camera movements rather than dialogue.
