Jared Lapidus is a director + writer specializing in dialogue and performance driven comedy. His roots in the NYC sketch community are evident in his casting, proficiency with improv, and his ability to craft and sculpt sublime comedic performances, particularly from the many celebrities featured in his work. A graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, Jared credits his sharp sensibilities to his years spent as an editor, where he honed his instincts for timing, rhythm, and pacing -- the holy trinity of comedic filmmaking.
His work first gained attention via his sketch comedy group, Reverse Cowboys, parlaying their string of viral hits into TV work with Comedy Central, TBS, MTV, E!, VH1, and NBC. He’s worked with Lorne Michaels, directed Netflix's 6-time Emmy nominated series, The Who Was Show, and TruTV's late-night comedy tentpole, Ghost Story Club. Recently, Jared directed What's Cooking Tonight? - a Netflix Waffles + Mochi standalone special starring the incomparable Michelle Obama, Jennifer Garner, & Jack Black.
Jared's helmed commercial campaigns for globally recognized brands such as ESPN, Jose Cuervo, Triscuit, Verizon, OREO, Nationwide Insurance, Burger King, and many more. He's currently in pre-production with Comedy Central on his debut feature film, which he co-wrote, slated to enter production later this year. Find more of his work at JaredLapidus.com.
For filmmakers, our way of life collapsed when Covid hit. We're outdoor, on-set people, and now we had to be indoor zoom-call people. The best thing we could do to end the pandemic was "stay home". Happy to do our part! But how useless we all felt! Impotent and frustrated, the time indoors made us question all of our life choices. Was our profession ridiculous? Were we all polishing brass on the Titanic? We took a nap, woke up, and self-soothed by writing a story about the most impotent human in history -- the dunce in every infomercial who can't do anything right. Maybe you'll laugh at the idiot, maybe you'll relate to him, but the undeniable fact is, we've all spent some time being him.
