Originally from South Korea, Soyeon Jung is an interdisciplinary media artist practicing in Binghamton, New York. Her work spans experimental video, video installations, performance, and digital media art and design. Through her expansive body of work, Jung explores the intricate contrasts of social structures, gender roles, and the functions of memory, all from the unique vantage point of someone situated between two cultures. Her art often reflects a deep engagement with the tensions and harmonies that arise from navigating her Korean heritage and American experiences, offering a nuanced exploration of identity, tradition, and the ever-evolving landscape of cultural integration.
Jung's projects have been showcased in exhibitions, screenings, and festivals, including the 2024 SPE Media Festival (St. Louis), SIMULTAN Media Festival (Timisoara, Romania), KLEX Experimental Film/Video Festival (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), Experimental Film Fest (New Bern, NC), MicroActs Artist Film Screening (London, UK), the 7 Days Video Series at Western Michigan University (Kalamazoo, MI), and Santa Monica Art Studios (Santa Monica, CA), among others. She earned her MFA in Media Arts from the University at Buffalo in 2006 and currently teaches in the Department of Art and Design at Binghamton University.
