Sophie Gao is a bilingual screenwriter, director, and producer based in China. She graduated from Beijing Film Academy in China and obtained MFA Degree in Film & TV Production from Loyola Marymount University in the USA. Her previous works have been selected into over 30 global film festival, including the Oscar & BAFTA-qualified Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival. Her notable works include CUE JANE (Best Short Film of the Year at the 14th Chinese US Film Festival) and ONE OF THE THOUSANDS (Remy Best Short Film Award at the Houston International Independent Film Festival). She has also been involved in producing movies “Midway”, “Malignant”, “Umma” and “The Great Wall". Her directorial debut feature film, WHERE ECHOES NEVER END, was selected for the WIP program at the 22nd Beijing International Film Festival.
Qianzi's work is known for capturing the intimate emotional changes of the characters in her story. She specially cares for women whose true strength can emerge under unexpected scenarios. Her Graduate Thesis project Cue Jane has won The Best Short Film of the Year in Chinese American Film Festival as well as the Best Narrative Short in Santa Cruz Film Festival. She also won the Best Female Director of 2018 Independent Short Awards held by IMDb.
As an Asian female filmmaker based in LA, she hopes to continue address the themes of universal emotion which transcends cultures, borders and religions all across the world.
