Son of Manukoko, the Guardian of Trees

Since the old days, in every family or clan in Timor-Leste there is one traditional leader. A traditional leader must be wise, have knowledge of traditional laws and lifestyle, ancestral lineage and the spiritual world.
He is the link between humans and the nature.

This film reveals the journey of a young man named Obed who decides to follow traditional leader Tiu Abilio to discover how the ancestors valued nature and how he can bring this respect to the communities today. Obed sees secluded places, hears old Timorese legends about genesis, and learns how to treat people with traditional herbs. After gaining Tiu Abilio’s trust, Obed leads a youth group to meet the old man and returns to his village with the dream of building a “Centre for Environment” to advocate on environmental issues and recycling.
