A few years ago, an exchange office robbery followed by a huge police chase after the perpetrators took place in my neighbourhood. As the police were tearing down the door of the apartment the suspects were holding up in, one of them put his gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger. The other was shot during the arrest.
In the months following this incident, I felt a growing sense of solidarity with these people - a feeling I couldn't ignore. When I started writing, I felt that the people I grew up around who inspired my work greatly were also people forced into stereotypes, predetermined roles and sealed destinies sealed. Lost members of a generation that, as absurd as it may sound, in their early twenties is already feeling tired, haggard and nostalgic.
Through a relatively classically constructed linear narrative Someday is an attempt to talk about the almost inaudible cry of people defined by the issues of emigration, employment, the (impossibility of starting a family. The heroes of this movie, ruthlessly disregarded in these issues but also completely uninterested in them move into a neglected space, one usually considered disgusting and insignificant.
Through a series of situations that bring the characters to a moment of tacit, almost subconscious understanding. Even though the outcome is inevitable Someday aims to assert that the film's heroes, as well as the real people who inspired them, deserved far better cards than those dealt to them.
The perspective built throughout the film discreetly points to the almost invisible connections of the characters and their coming together, as well as their almost instant misalignment; the way that two straight lines forever go in opposite directions after the point of intersection.
