Sebaztian Baz is a multifaceted artist who has ventured into music, drawing and painting, sculpture, and photography, ultimately finding his true calling in cinema. Sebaztian Baz is one of his personalities, taking on the roles of screenwriter, producer, director, and A.D.U. The other personalities are Sebastián Dadone (Editor, Art Director), Sebastián De Niro (Actor), and Hans Sebastian (Sound Designer and Editor).
Sombras Chinas is his debut feature film. He previously filmed several short films and music videos.
Sombras Chinas becomes the first vertical feature film in cinema history, set to be commercially released in April/May, marking a cinematic milestone.
Currently, Sebaztian Baz is preparing his next feature film (his second).
The motivation and inspiration for this story stem from my artistic need to leave a mark—a reflection of my vision of the world we are immersed in. Life, especially as it unfolds through virtuality, constantly mocks us. That’s why I felt an absolute urgency to return the gesture: to laugh a little at how we live, what we consume, and how we relate to one another.
With this in mind, my creative approach embraces the utterly ridiculous to tell a romantic story in a satirical form, sweetened with touches of a thriller.
The decision to use verticality—marking the first time this format is utilized in a feature film—was entirely narrative-driven. This story could not have been told, nor would it have conveyed the same, without this choice. My intention to parody the virtual world we constantly engage with is, ultimately, a way to parody ourselves. And here arises an inevitable question: what better way to look in the mirror and see what we’ve become than through vertical cinema?
Finally, this project holds significance in several ways:
The importance of revolutionizing art, kicking the comfort of the known to the curb, and creating something disruptive with a narrative purpose.
The need to reflect—with a smile, but not without concern—on the immersive virtual lives we lead today.
The simplicity of telling a small yet meaningful story that offers entertainment and fun, making life just a bit more bearable.
Sebaztian Baz
Let’s trust in love.
