Soldier's Joy

Central Kentucky implodes as 1860s pro slavery politics infiltrate organized religion through Witchcraft and Hypnotism. An assassination attempt on Abraham Lincoln using a shooter with Downs Syndrome is carried out in hopes of starting the war.

Director Biography - Danny Lee Ramsey

This is the first feature length film for Danny. He studied all the rules in the books and then systematicly broke them. Attempting a period piece with no budget with hot topic issues such as slavery, imposters as religious figures, animals, kids, bon fires, Downs Syndrome, witches, mixing a period piece with heavy metal soundtracks, drifting in and out of an art film look, dutch angles, black and white nightmares and complicated relationships is not the easy way to start but all push the story along in a non typical way, Danny has done a lot of film acting in the Tn. Ky. area and scored several Indy movies and short films as well as the HBO Cinimax Series "The Erotic Traveler" and has directed several music videos. This film is intended as a pilot for a series or a trilogy of films.

Director Statement

As I have aged I realize that I am an artist. More then anything else. It's not just what I do but who I am. All my life I thought of myself as a musician, but as time has gone on I've done a bit of acting and storytelling and film scoring and discovered that I am more then that. And it's film where I can use all my talents and people skills together to make even bigger art. I never realy wanted this to be the "Dan Show" but yes, I wrote it, directed it, wrote and played the music tracks and filled in for an actor that was a no show no phone call.
I'm not just about pretty pictures impossibly complacted music scores that no one could play but me. I want to make people think. I want to hold up images.. images that stay in your mind.. that make people confont their opinions in a way that can lead them to different conclusions and maybe make the world a little bit better place because of a change of attitude. As a people we have come a long way since the 1860's but we have a long way to go.
My grandfather walked for three months to escape the vigilantes that hung my great grandfather after he returned home from the war, and I often wonder just how quickly those kinds of days could return with the wrong people in charge of our government. Hope you enjoy the show. And if you insist on burning crosses in my yard, I'll bring the hot dogs and marshmallows and maybe we can find something that we do agree on. Peace!
