Solar panels illuminate the lives of poor households in Burundi
In Burundi, most households in peri-urban and rural areas do not have access to electricity. The average per capita electricity consumption is among the lowest on the African continent and is 23 kWh/year, compared to an African average of 150 kWh/year.
This video of Objective 2030 initiative, shows how the use of renewable energy sources, as a substitute for traditional means of energy production, improves living conditions from a health point of view and allows the development of small economic activities.
The project in question aims to increase the supply of photovoltaic systems in the peri-urban area of Bukirasazi 2, north of Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi. The aim is to create solar installations for the benefit of poor households as well as in a school, while encouraging the creation of income-generating activities such as sewing, hairdressing, recharging telephones, etc.
