Director Biography - Kitsana Jear Humphries

Jear grew up in Thailand before moving to the UK at 10. Growing up in a new country, he didn’t have many friends at first—until he picked up a camera. He started making silly video effects and filming kids at school doing parkour, which helped him connect with others. In his teens, he kept filming and editing parkour videos with friends, posting them online.

Wanting to get better at filmmaking, he went to film school to learn camera and lighting techniques. But the real learning happened outside of class, just by making his own stuff. Now, at 23, he’s acted in his first feature film and directed his first narrative short, where he also acted. After years of taking inspiration from outside sources, he’s now focused on telling stories that feel personal—ones based on his own life and experiences.

Director Statement

Friendship can be a strange thing, especially the ones that fade over time. Sometimes I want to reach out, but then I remember—we stopped talking for a reason. But as time passes, that reason becomes harder to recall. Was it really that bad?

This film comes from that dilemma, that internal conflict. I wanted to show that it’s okay to reach out, even if it feels selfish. Because at least you did something. And if you don’t, you might regret it forever. And who knows? Their response might not be what you expected
